Our Farming Year – Kehoe Farming, Wexford
At Kehoe Farming, work continues all year round, shaped by the Irish weather and the rich soils of South Wexford near Foulksmills.
🌱 Spring – Preparing for Growth
Spring is a crucial time on the farm. As the days grow longer, we prepare the land for the growing season.
- Ploughing & Cultivating stubbles
- Fertilising meadows
- Preparing seedbeds
Timing is key—we work quickly during dry weather windows.
☀️ Early Summer – Growth & Grass Harvest
The main event of early summer is haylage and silage production.
- First cut of grass
- Correct moisture levels
- High-quality horse feed production
Modern machinery helps, but weather still controls everything.
🌾 Late Summer & Autumn – Harvest Season
This is our busiest period.
- Harvesting wheat, barley & rape
- Collecting straw for bedding
- Long days and late nights
Straw is later processed into clean bedding like KosiBed.
🌽 Maize Harvest
[
Maize harvesting is another key part of our seasonal cycle.
🍂 Late Autumn & Winter – Preparing for Next Year
As the season ends, we prepare for the next:
- Reseeding grass leys
- Ploughing fields
- Maintaining machinery
